The Arboretum that Became a Neighborhood:
Call for Volunteers

The Highland Park Neighborhood Association is asking for your help as we present an exhibit in celebration of our name change and new logo.  The exhibit will be held at the same time as the lilac festival in the Lower Reservoir Gatehouse in Highland Park, from May 10-18, 2008.  The Lower Reservoir  Gatehouse is the red brick building across the street from the Lamberton Conservatory.  We need Neighborhood volunteers to work the exhibit and its associated merchandise booth.  The current plan is to have the exhibit open during the weekends of the festival; however, if we have enough volunteers, it may be open on some weekdays as well. Some of you have already signed up at previous Neighborhood meetings and there will one more opportunity at our meeting on April 22nd to do this in person.  Our volunteer coordinators will be at this meeting to go over details and get your contact info.  Otherwise, please e-mail us at hpn.association@gmail.com as soon as you can and one of our volunteer coordinators will respond.

If you haven’t heard, the title of the exhibit is : "The Arboretum that became a Neighborhood" and it is about the living museum of trees within the Highland Park area of the city. We use maps and reproduced documents to trace the neighborhood’s growth from the days of the historic Ellwanger & Barry nursery until today.  And there is one more way you can help us, “Nominate a Tree” for this exhibit by sending us a story, a photo or a even a drawing. After the exhibit, we intend to design a walking tour for which your contributions to the exhibit will serve as a nomination.    The first 100 contributors to the display and walking tour nomination will each receive a limited edition commemorative post card. So bring your nominations to the meeting or e-mail us at hpn.association@gmail.com. Or bring your contribution directly to the exhibit.  See our web-site, www.ellwangerbarry.org for more information.
